SOUL SURFER

I know, I know, it's a tween movie but it was seriously so good, and I think you should all go get it and make your hubbies, tweens, and kiddies watch it with you. I was obsessed with Blue Crush when it came out, inspired by it to be strong and healthy (and travel to Hawaii), and was super excited when I saw the previews for Soul Surfer based on the true story of Bethany Hamilton. Bethany lost her arm in a shark attack during surfing practice and was back in the water the first chance she got and on to win competitions and become a world champion.

I must have cried 10 times throughout the movie because it was so touching. There were so many amazing scenes and the quotes were so powerful I started jotting them down:

In one scene after she just misses a wave and loses a competition a reporter asks her if she would take back the day she lost her arm, and she replies, "I wouldn’t change what happened to me, because then I wouldn’t have this chance to be in front of all of you. This chance to embrace more people than I ever could have with two arms."

"I was born to surf. This is why I wake up at the crack of dawn every day. This is why I endure belly rashes, reef cuts, muscles so tired they feel like noodles. And I’ve learned that life is a lot like surfing. When you get caught in the impact zone, you need to get right back up because you never know what’s over the next wave."

Me: Brian, I'm writing about the movie on the blog, is that weird?
Brian: No, it's awesome. Bottom line is that the movie tells the story of a girl that something horrendous happened to, and she refused to take no for an answer. It was awesome.

Schuyler Samperton

I absolutely ADORE the eclectic designs of Schuyler Samperton - the pink in these first three photos really got me, I mean, this is what makes a good designer! Maybe I'm too "green" of a designer but I don't know how comfortable I would be selling magenta panels for the interior of what looks like an old English farmhouse, but Schuyler makes it work with flying colors = admiration.

LOVE this aqua lamp to lighten up the dark wood lamp base.

oh, and she's beautiful!

Bon Weekend!

Browsing for fireplace screens this week I came across this mantle piece and fell in love. I love the softness yet edginess of the chevron print above, and such a simple DIY if you're in the market for cheap art:

DIY instructions here

Pair that print with a beach house fireplace, sisal rug and some nice coral pieces and you have beach chic, yummy!

On a side note, I'd like to welcome you to my newest sponsor Nautical Chart Wallpaper! Stay tuned for their formal introduction and giveaway, I'm so happy to be able to share their awesome work with all of you :)

Off to a wedding in Philly this weekend, congrats Margo & Eric!!

BEACH CHIC WEDDING HAIR

I decided to do my own hair after tearing up at the hair trial in the salon of the resort where we are getting married. Throughout my "getting dressed up life" beginning with prom, I never liked my hair "done". I had an up-do at my first prom and for every event after that I did my own hair, usually down with a couple pins keeping the front pieces back.

I thought since the wedding was such a big occasion I should give it a go again and have it professionally done, but the tight bun and shirley temple curls when I had asked for a loose taussled beachy bun to the side warrented otherwise

I am going to start fooling around but this is the look I want :

which looks like it can be achived like this:

If I had long thick pretty hair, I would do this:

I'll take photos of my own trials and post them here, wish me luck!

Oh, and a great Etsy shop for hair flowers is

Under-decorated Classic Beach

Thrilled to get my hands on the latest Coastal Living magazine amongst all of the wedding craziness and just relax, I was sent right into a tizy thinking I booked the wrong honeymoon to Maui. The newly remodeled Dunmore Hotel in Harbour Island was just redecorated by Nassau-based designer Amanda Lindroth and it was just screaming my name.

Lindroth went after her latest resort project with the popular un-decorated, or underdecorated trend in mind with lots of quirky pieces to add a 60's beach flair:

LOVE the china seas fabric on the bench and ottomon and love even more that nothing matches but it looks so good!

My Wedding Shower

This past weekend my mother threw me the most beautiful wedding shower a girl could ask for. So many of my closest family and friends were there, and it was so exciting to be with them for the afternoon and share in all the love and joy that is happening as we prep for the wedding!

I haven't had a chance to upload the photos but as soon as I do, I will post! My mom did the centerpieces herself with blue and white hydrangeas with pink roses mixed in, and I had a seahorse cake which was so adorable, and delicious!

The gifts were amazing and overwhelming, I can not wait to show Brian and put everything in it's place :) I got everything from my everyday casual china, an all clad set of pots and pans, my Ralph Lauren formal china, flatware, kitchen aid mixer, food processor, Le Crueset, and the list goes on...so excited!!!!

Thank you mom for such a beautiful day, I love you!

Beach House Love via Pinterest

So my iphone was stolen the other night!! Brian and I were out to dinner at Molto in Fairfield, CT, which was amazing other than the phone part, and I remember checking my phone at the table around 9:30. We left the restaurant and got into our car at 10:00 and it was nowhere to be found. We went back to the restaurant and the manager said no one had turned it in. :(

Anyways, Brian left for his bachelor party this weekend in Vail (nice, huh?) and I had some time to goof around on Pinterest before bed last night. I was searching for beach houses, want to find images I hadn't seen before and I adored these:

aren't they great!? I love all the white and clean lines, natural elements, stripes, shell mirrors, horizontal paneled walls, and the list goes on!

Sorry about the iphone story - moral is though, add the iphone tracking app to your phone like right now!!

Sea Urchin Round-Up

I love all sea life and go in and out of phases of being obsessed with starfish, seahorses, scallop shells, and now, it's urchins. Check out these amazing urchin finds from around the web:

candlesticks on Etsy - these are an absolute favorite of mine, how cool are they?

This print would be so pretty in a floating frame

One of my favorite fabrics, Kelly Wearstler's Sea Urchin by Groundworks
