Dining Hutch Re-Do

With all the new china, silver and beautiful glassware we have been getting since our engagement, I've decided to purchase a pretty kitchen/dining room hutch to store and display these beautiful pieces in. I pretty much refuse to buy any wood furniture new so I've been scouring craigslist for one I can paint and design on my own.

I'm thinking of either a light gray, or white, with grasscloth covering the back.

Here are some I found and admire:

I'm looking at something like the below which I spotted on C-list.

So, what do you think? white-white, chippy white, or gray?

  2. LOVE the shape of that third one! So unique. And I'm with you on the buying used and fixing up ... I think it's more fun since the piece then becomes a part of your couple life when you do it together. Plus, you can't beat the savings!

  3. Lovely inspirations. We've been scouring CL and locally for a hutch/buffet as well! Isn't it tough? It's gotta have the right "lines/bones" to begin with. Best of luck with your search!

  4. Love it! I've got a pale yellow "chippy" one that I love. I think it would look great white, chippy white or grey... I guess it depends on the look you are going for - swedish country, shabby chic or hamptons.... :)

  6. I like a white exterior with a milky grey or pale blue/green interior to show off your plates and glasses. Can't wait to see what you decide.

  7. Really lovin' the black one...it is grey on the inside, right?

  8. I adore a white china cabinet, and adore your choices. I think that white cabinets create such a clean slate, and puts the emphasis on the beautiful china contained within.

  10. My vote is for gray! Or do both - white outside, gray inside.

  11. My hutch is the one you featured on top, which was featured on Kat's blog. I also went through a great deal of thought on the color as it had been badly painted. I had it scraped and repainted to suit the color scheme in my house -- I had been admiring antique blue and gray Swedish hutches and buffets. Ironically, it is gray thought it looks blue -- the paint is old-fashioned Swedish tempera and the color is simply white touched with lamp black.
I'll include a link to my kitchen, which might help with context. bit.ly/cEWdwc

  13. I love the distressed white, but I have never been successful creating that look myself.

Good luck with the search. Please post your before/after photos!
