My first post on my first blog - yay!

Wow, I never thought I would be getting into this but with all the creativity buzzing all around me and this excitement I have for my new business venture, Shorely Chic Decor, why not put it down for all the world to see! Plus, I love reading other people's blogs, so maybe they will like to read mine too :)

This is how it all started: For three and a half years, every morning when I woke up and everyday that I sat at my desk, I thought to myself over and over that this is not what I was meant to be doing with my life, and it was starting to drive me mad! They call it a quarter-life crisis but I think mine had lasted for way too long to be considered a crisis, definitely no way to live each working day of my early twenties. Luckily, I recently came to the conclusion that we all have things we are passionate about, and it's different for everyone, but for me it is design, creativity, art, and visual. I had ignored this passion being too consumed with trying to figure out what I was "supposed" to be doing, and decided it was time to stop the pity party. I am fortunate to know what I love doing, and just because I can't pursue it from 9-5, there are 16 other hours in each day :)

I have a major in art history, studied in Florence, Italy, interned at Christie's Auction House which is a pretty solid foundation to what I want to pursue. I have been to so many interior stores in the area and have become very familiar with a wide range of styles and trends. I subscribe to about every home magazine there is and enjoy crafting and shopping thrift stores on the look out for unique and beautiful vintage pieces. Why not try and share this interest, this passion, with my friends and family, and the outside world???

SO I thought of the name Shorely Chic because I love love love the beach and all things beachy, India Hicks has been a huge inspiration, especially her book, "Island Life", and of course Rachel Ashwell's Shabby Chic. My dream is to be a power-house interior home decor figure combining the two styles.

So far I have 32 items for sale and am working my little tushy off making things and shopping around to add inventory. Currently everything is on my Etsy shop, www.shorelychic.etsy.com, and I hope to soon have my own website :)

This blog is an attempt to document all of ups and downs and processes of building Shorely Chic, and I am thrilled to be sharing it all with you.

I have included some photos of my recent hand-made and vintage items. I hope you enjoy it! Please please please comment and leave suggestions - I have no idea what to expect of all this!
