ME

Well, it's been one year since I came home from the day job and decided I had to do something more creative in my life. Shorely Chic was born around a year ago and what a year it has been!! It has always been my goal to be a designer and be professionally involved in all things interior design and I have certainly dived right in.

Just so you all know this is what goes through my head at all times: where should I be right now? Should I be working in my own boutique? Should I be running an e-commerce store that has all my customer should ever need for his or her beach chic world? Should I be working on my very own product lines and having my prototypes manufactured? Should I be going to school for interior design? Should I be working for an interior designer? AND the list goes on...

The truth is I am still dabbling in each of these ideas and have been pretty close to pulling the trigger on some.  Right now, I am working hard on a new e-commerce site and have been collecting inventory from various designers. I am working on a decorating a few different rooms in various homes, I am signed up for a sewing class in September and a Drawings & Presentation class at a local university. I am also working on a few new designs for picture frames and pillow covers with a block printer I met at the NYIGF in August. He is oversees so it has been a bit challenging but I am hoping I love the samples and can order my very own designs to distribute! P.S. I am also working my full-time day job, taking more than my allotted vacation days, and I have a very nice boss to thank for that :)

I know, I am totally all over the place. On this blog, I mostly post beautiful things that inspire me but every once in a while I need to get out what's going on inside of ME and the feedback from all of my readers is so incredibly satisfying and helpful.

Thanks for hearing me out!

a sneak peak at some new designs!!

  2. Sweetie, you are so fortunate that you figured out what you DON'T want to do...and a year ago!
You're way ahead of the crowd.
Bravo for taking the plunge, you're doing great.
And don't worry...I think we always second guess and overanalyze what we're doing with our lives!

  5. I think you are doing everything you need to do. A little dabble here and there will give you a taste of it all and help you decide what you love best. It is good to also have "experience" in each little bit that interests you even if it is just getting your big toe wet. I personally find you very inspiring. And believe me I am also wondering what I should be doing with my life, so that it is beach filled. Yes I am a profesora by day for now, but I too am reaching for that dream. That is why you are a good read even if u think your blog is all over the map. I think it reflects you and that is why I visit. All the best! and congrats on one year.

  8. First off, congratulations! One year in this economy is fabulous and actually, one year in ANY economy is a feat. So many businesses go under in no time at all.

You sound like you're on the right track - questioning yourself means you are looking toward the future and keeping your business evolving.

I'm always thinking of other things to do, sell, questioning things so you're not alone! LOL!

Best wishes to you during your next year and all the new things which you will accomplish...some will be hits and some will be misses - but it's your attitude which will continue to make your overall business a success.

    Hugs,
Marie @ Sally Lee by the Sea

  13. I think, becoming more and more clear about what you truly love and feel attracted to is the best guideline.

  14. Miz Liz: I raised my girls in a furniture, design oriented family, staying at home. At the age of 55, after shopping for 30 years at furniture fairs and markets, I pushed the pause button, and wondered what do I truly know and love. Well, I realized I know the rock bottom lowest price of every thing. Take a sneak peek at my new store, and write to me. I'd love to share ideas with you! There is a button, top right on my blog that will show you our shop. It would just be fun to throw ideas around. Thanks for asking, we're all in this world together.
    Cheers,
    Liz

  15. Hi Liz :)

I've often wondered about my decision to leave the working world cold turkey and stay home while me kids are young. Most recently my visit to NYC and meeting the likes of you and so many working talents, I came home and paused to think about the what if. However, my life is specific to me and only me. At the end of the day I made a decision that continues to feel right and I am enjoying, like you, the inspiration that I have found from blogging. My "somedays" are continually being shaped and formed and when the time is right, it will arrive. I believe you are well on your way to turning the corner and seeing what it is you are walking towards! I can't wait to hear about it and watch it unfold in the blogosphere :) Blessings, Kelly

  16. Happy (belated) anniversary! I think it's amazing that you've found something that you want to do and are going for it.

    Well done!

  17. You know, I just read this post and it really struck a chord with me. You could have been describing my past eighteen months to a tee - it can be hard to know which way to go, and where to focus your energies. You're obviously a creative soul and as such probably have lots of creative interests, which can make it even harder to choose just one. And who says you have to? I'm now following your lovely blog and look forward to seeing all of your creative dreams come true. Btw, love your designs - gorgeous! K xx
