I mentioned a few days ago that I was going to help a friend pu the finishing touches on decorating her coastal chic home here in Darien, CT. One of the rooms she needs help with is a study/playroom, so kid-friendly but still nice looking since the room is right off of the family room/kitchen with high-visibility to guests. The walls are blank and I've been searching and searching for wall art. The problem with wall art however is that you can't just buy it all at once, it sort of has to be collected over time to reflect the taste and likes of the family.
As I said I've really been looking to fill up her wall space and I had remembered seeing these really pretty coastal maps in a friend's apartment in NYC and in a catalog. Some of these are nice, others a bit too much, but I wanted to show a range of how you can use nautical charts to decorate your home in a coastal/nautical way without it looking too "themey" and tacky:
I hope she likes the idea of using maps to fill up her walls in the study/playroom! I think I'll suggest putting a few framed pictures up of her beautiful family, too!

I love the rooms with charts as a wallpaper! I think it would be a perfect addition!

I especially liked the boldness of the blueprints popping off the white wall and mixed with black frames & floating shelves....
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your project!

This is the perfect post for me because I have been looking for something to do with this one wall in my kitchen that is just there. I didn't want it to be too themey :) and I think you may have just given me the perfect solution. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHi, quick note to say that your creations are wonderful and that I wrote a short post about you on: http://thesuccinctstylist.blogspot.com/2010/06/do-you-miss-sea-too.html
ReplyDeleteI really want to try that one day -paste some maps on the wall. Love the idea. All the best with your project, and thanks for the link!
ReplyDeleteThis is when I wish the lower level wall of our home weren't stucco or with such low ceilings. My DB has a good number of older maps with the courses he drew on them to tropical islands.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I'd love any one of those nautical rooms.
ReplyDeleteSuper cute blog =)
Oh gee I love all of these. They are so sweet.
ReplyDeleteLove nautical maps!! I just scored a bunch at a garage sale. First project I'm going to do with them is line the drawers of an old blue chippy dresser I recently bought.
ReplyDeleteLovely post... love the inspiration
At Nautical Chart Wallpaper, we
ReplyDeletecan take a whole map or just a selected area and enlarge it to fit any wall or walls. We can even change the colors to match your decor. Sooo Fun.
