Beach Cottage Chic - Home in Fire Island to Die For!

It's funny, I used to complain and convince my boyfriend all of the time that we needed to paint our all white apartment walls different colors. His argument was always, why spend the time painting these walls only to paint them back once we move out. As I am a, "we'll worry about that later" type of person the thought of having to paint the walls over at move-out time didn't really concern me. Well, luckily, I never got around to painting the walls and I am finally happy about that because I am really digging white these days. It's so incredibly bright and having the freedom to choose whatever color accessories and changing them whenever you want because your walls are so neutral is a beautiful thing!

I love crisp whites paired with all different colors, think rustic furniture and antique frames with bright pink peonies and other flowers spotted all over the room - bliss!

Alex Bates, creative director of West Elm, did such an amazing job with her beach cottage on Fire Island. All of her walls are white and they look great paired with her family's slip-covered furniture and rustic touches. The result is low-key relaxed feel that is refreshing and just perfect for a beach house!

One of my new tray's would look great on her white coffee table, don't you think!?

  1. In love with the photos in the bathroom. I ran across a bunch of those at the Rose Bowl last time I went and I pulled myself away without buying them. Totally regretting it now. And the bedroom with the two twin beds is so cozy!

  2. I have always kept my walls white in every home I've lived in...I love white! I also am a terrible wall painter. But we did paint two of the bedrooms in Sea Cottage...the kids rooms, at their request...one is a pale beige and one a pale sea blue. I don't think I will ever tire of white on white and layers and layers of white. There are so many pretty shades of whites and creams.

And you are welcome to feature my bedroom suite in a post...just link back to me please. ox~ fairmaiden

  6. I have white walls also, not really by choice but by laziness (same situation as you - why paint now to change back when we move?). I have a lot of art and things on the walls, so they don't look bare, but sometimes I still crave coloured walls. I do like the beachy east cost look of white walls though - that beach house on fire island is gorgeous! And I agree that your tray would look great on her coffee table :)

  8. Beautiful! I love the beachy, comfy whites. Works with all that light from the windows. Ironically, doesn't work in my house, which has limited windows. The artificial light makes all-white look dingy. So for now, rich jewel tones for me. But someday....all white! Thanks for sharing the inspiration!

  9. She absolutely needs one of your trays...and a few other items from your chic shop as well...my husband and I met on Fire Island in 1993, so this particular spot holds a very special place in my heart. Add to it this amazing cottage, and its got me thinking we should try to get over there more often!

  10. I am so in love! I would love to plop down on that couch after a day at the beach and light a fire and read a book and drink a glass of chilled white wine! :)
