Trials and Tribulations...

Ahh the trials and tribulations of starting your own business... All week I have been so excited and working really hard to get the Shorely Chic boutique ready for show at this brand new flea market that started a few towns over from me.  I thought it would be great, my mom and I would sit at our table talking to all the lovely the shoppers that just adored Shorely Chic and I would sell enough to invest in some new great stock just in time for my trunk show! I wore my favorite new top by K. Madison, put the jelly beans out in a pineapple welcome tray, and had a smile ear to ear at the start of the show :)
(1:00 p.m.)

At 3:00 p.m., maybe a total of five people had come by since the start, and at this point mom and I were talking ourselves silly, reading and crocheting, and desperately trying to chat with anyone who came by the market (btw I am reading this out loud to her and we both can't stop laughing).

At 5:00 p.m. someone bought my new mermaid doormat and another person bought this vintage metal fish candleholder - hurray we made enough to cover the cost of our booth!

**Note, None of the other vendors were selling either so I didn't feel so bad. In another hour, around six, we packed up our twenty or so bins and wall-hangings and hit the road.

One of the most important things I have learned since starting Shorely Chic is that any and all experiences are beneficial to your emotional and personal growth.  Although at the time, like yesterday when I barely broke even after putting myself out there and all that hardwork, it may feel like a let down, you just never know what could come of it. I met two really sweet girls who I will certainly be in contact with and found out about an auction house I never heard of.

I am happy I tried, I may even go back one day, and I am thankful to have such a supportive and loving mother to share these trials and tribulations with.

Happy Easter!!

The packing begins!

  2. Sorry it didn't work out better - your space looks terrific though! (as do you and your mother!)

Traffic was a nightmare in the late afternoon - there had been an accident on the highway and both the highway and the local roads were at a stand-still. I tried heading in that direction, but just had to turn around...

  5. Hi Liz, that stinks, but think of the experience you are incurring....the booth looks so good. Listen, come to the hamptons this summer and do a booth - the crowds are out here in July and August....you can stay at my place. Don't give up. tamara

  6. Your booth looked very nice. It was a day before a holiday which could be the reason for it being slow or everyone was getting to that yard work with the sun finally out.

Hang in there and keep that positive outlook you have.

  8. Your booth setup looks great! don't get too down about the lack of sales, it sounds like you learned a lot. Every once in a while you get a show that just doesn't pan out, for whatever reason. I'm sure you'll do better next time!
